PTPs
What is Paid To
Promote (PTP)?
For the longest time, I resisted doing PTP,
simply because I didn't understand it - and
couldn't get a reasonable explanation on how it
works. I was given a long litany
about "tiers"... and basically I decided against
it, it just seemed way too complicated to bother
with.
Then I was shown HOW to do it, and I've been
kicking myself ever since. It's the EASIEST WAY
TO EARN ONLINE!
Basically, you join a site that offers PTP just
like you would with a PTR site.
You can find the PTP link/s assigned to you by
going to your member area. In the member area,
you will find a link called Paid To Promote, PTP
Main or PTP Overview. When you click on the link
or select it from the drop down menu, it will
take you to your PTP area. There you will
find:
- The PTP link/s assigned to promote
- The sample banners and the codes which you can
promote. If you are interested in promoting any
PTP banners, please make sure to host the banner
elsewhere if you are not allowed to hot link the
banner.
--To host the link elsewhere - open up a free
account at photobucket.com , imageshack.com or one
of the other free image hosting sites.
--Right-click the image of the banner that you
want to use, and choose Save Target. Then copy
to a file on your hard drive and rename it to the
program name (so it's easy to find later).
Here's how I got started in PTP.
I joined a few programs that a friend recommended
to me, then I added the links to my em-traffic
account. (Make sure that the program you are
advertising on is listed in the approved sites
with your PTP program!) I then assigned
which Tier I wanted to see my link. Credits that
I earn each day by surfing and doing the PTC
links are automatically assigned. Voila! That's
all there is to it!
There
are literally hundreds of approved sites with
each PTP program - you'll have no trouble finding
places to run your ads.
Following is more information and the rules
regarding PTPs:
Some programs with PTP's credit cash to your
account automatically for each valid hit you
receive to your PTP link whereas in most
programs, the credits will get accumulated until
you redeem them yourself.
What does CPM mean?
It means Cost Per 1000. M is the Roman letter for
1000. If you see a site offering 70 Cents/ CPM,
it means the same as 70 Cents per 1,000
credits.
What is a unique hit?
Sites with PTP have an xyz hour unique hits
mentioned below the PTP link/s. Some are 12 hour
unique hits and some 24 hours and so on. For
example, let's say you are promoting a 24 hour
unique hits link. If one member clicks that link,
you will get credited for it. But if the same
member clicks the link again before 24 hours, you
will not get credited again. You will not receive
credit for the second click if it is clicked
before the 24 hours is up. It is the same for a
12 hour unique hits link.
You can find the PTP link/s assigned to you by
going to your member area. In the member area,
you will find a link called Paid To Promote, PTP
Main or PTP Overview. When you click on the link
or select it from the drop down menu, it will
take you to your PTP area. There you will find:
- The PTP link/s assigned to promote
- The sample banners and the codes which you can
promote. If you are interested in promoting any
PTP banners, please make sure to host the banner
elsewhere if you are not allowed to hot link the
banner.
Some programs have more than one PTP link to
promote, whilst some others have only one PTP
link.
Sites with only one ptp link:
When you go to your member area, you will find a
link called PTP Main or PTP Overview. When you
click on the link or select it from the drop down
menu, you will be taken to your PTP area. There,
you will usually find your PTP link under "This
is the link you should promote to get
credited"
When you scroll down, you will find the PTP
sample banners and codes. Below that, you will be
able to see your stats. The stats show the name
of the site you are receiving hits from, total
hits, valid hits and the percentage valid.
Valid hit means, the member who clicked on your
PTP link has allowed the page to load and stayed
in the PTP link page until you received credit.
For example, a site shows a one line notification
as follows:
user has received for showing you
this page.
Invalid hit means, the member who clicked on your
PTP link has not stayed in the page long enough
for you to receive credit. OR - your link has
been clicked on by the same person in the time
period allowed
There is no point in you receiving 100’s or
1000’s of hits to your PTP link if the valid hit
percentage is low. It’s the valid hits that count
towards the accumulation of credits, which you
can then convert to cash.
Sites with more than one PTP link:
Some sites have more than one PTP link assigned
to members. In such instances, it is very
important to go through the instructions/ rules
mentioned below each ptp link to find out where
you can promote each link. Some links are those
any member of the site can promote, some only
upgraded members can promote, some links where
you can promote in auto surf sites etc. The only
way of knowing where you can promote each
individual link is by reading the instructions/
rules carefully.
To check status, below the instructions/ rules of
the assigned links, you will find “Approved
Sites”, “Tier Info” and “Statistics”. Approved
sites mean, the sites that are approved to
promote that specific link. Tier info gives you
details of category ratings for countries which
are based on advertising demand. Usually, the
tier levels are the same in all programs, but how
much credit a member receives per each hit can
vary from program to program. The
following is an
example:
Category 1: Each hit will count as 1 credits
Category 2: Each hit will count as 0.8 credits
Category 3: Each hit will count as 0.5 credits
Category 4: Each hit will count as 0.3 credits
Category 5: Each hit will count as 0.1 credits
In order to check your statistics, you need to
click on the “statistics” link. It will take you
to a page showing overall statistics. Here it
will show the dates you received clicks on your
PTP link, total number of clicks, number of valid
clicks and some programs also show the number of
invalid clicks and finally, the valid hits
percentage. If you wish to see from which site/s
you received clicks on a specific date, click on
the date. It will take you to a page which shows
the name/s of the site you received the clicks
from, along with the total hits, valid hits and
valid percentage.
What to check before advertising ptp links:
It is very important to check the following
details before you start advertising your PTP.
- The rules of the site regarding promotion of
PTP. It usually shows what sort of sites are
allowed and disallowed.
- Before redeeming or purchasing advertising for
a PTP, please ensure the program you are
purchasing/ redeeming advertising is approved by
the PTP site. If not, you will not receive credit.
There is no point in advertising in sites that
are disallowed or not approved as you will not
receive credit, irrespective how many clicks you
may receive. All such clicks will be counted as
invalid clicks/ hits which will not earn you
anything. Therefore, advertising in unapproved/
disallowed sites is a waste of money.
How to convert credits to cash:
When you go to the PTP main page, you will find
something like this:
Your Current Balance: 592 PTP credits Value:
$0.3966
Your exchange rate is $0.67 for 1000 credits.
OR:
Your current number of Paid-To-Promote points is:
282
You can exchange these Paid-To-Promote points to
cash.
The current value of points is: 70 cents for each
1000 credits
Minimum exchange quantity is 500 credits.
Exchange link will appear after you have reached
minimum
OR something similar to the above.
First, check the minimum exchange quantity that
the site is exchanging. Usually it is 1000
credits, but the minimum exchange quantity of
some sites is 500, some others it is 2000 etc. If
your PTP stats show that you have reached the
minimum exchange quantity, click on the
option “convert”. Some sites automatically
convert the total PTP credits to cash, but some
sites give you the option to decide how many
credits you wish to convert. For example, if the
minimum exchange quantity is 1000 and you have
1050, you can either convert all credits or
convert just 1000. It is up to you. When you
convert the money, it will show in your account
balance.
General Note:
When clicking PTP links of members, please
make sure you wait till the page loads and the
member gets credit for your visit. If you close
the page after the timer runs and if by that time
the page has not loaded, your click will not be
counted as a valid hit. It will then be a
waste of the advertiser’s money and the site that
sent you the PTP link/ mail may lose a valuable
advertiser. Please show the same amount of
attention to other member’s advertisements as you
would want to receive to your own.
**Very Important**
Some members make the mistake of promoting the
PTP but not click any links. Promoting your PTP
link, logging into your member area and
converting the PTP credits to cash does not make
you an active member. No matter what a big PTP
promoter you may be, if you do not click at least
one email or PTC link within the inactivity
period stipulated by the program, you will be
considered as inactive and your account deleted.

I'm so excited! I added up all my payments
received in Paypal from my PTRs from March 17th
through April 17th and found that I'd actually
exceeded my goal of $160!
I was paid $180 and some change just from my
PTRs! As soon as I can figure out how to do a
screenshot and post it on my site here I will.
This money is really helping now that gas prices
are skyrocketing.
Thanks to everyone who has joined a program
through this site. As always, I'll be happy to
answer any questions you might have.
Happy clicking!

Beginner's Guide to PTR
So you'd like or need to make a
little extra cash
each month (who doesn't??) This guide is
intended for anyone starting out in Paid To Read
(PTR) Programs.
There are lots of ways to make money online in
your spare time, we'll go through several here,
starting with the basics of PTR.
You will not get rich doing PTR - but you can
make enough to pay your internet bill and take
yourself and your sweetie out for a nice dinner!
I'm currently making an average of $120 a month
just from my PTR sites, and working to raise that
amount.
Getting Started - Email Account
First, you will want to open a new email account -
because you will be getting HUNDREDS of emails
per day from your sites. I'd recommend a free
account through yahoo or gmail, as they have the
most storage space and you won't have to worry
about your Paid Emails getting bounced back from
a full inbox.
After you click on the link of the program you
want to join, you'll type in your new email
address and Submit. You should get your
Activation email within a few seconds. If it
takes longer - do NOT submit your information
again - the scripts at the site will mark you as
a "cheater" = trying to open multiple accounts.
PTR sites will only let you have one account per
IP address (your computer/ISP's address) If you
don't get your Activation email within 10
minutes - send an email to the WM through their
Contact Us link at the site.
After you Activate your account, simply enter
your personal information along with how you want
to get paid (see below). Most PTRs have "check-
boxes" near the bottom of the enrollment page,
determining what kinds of emails you'd like to
receive. They also include boxes to detect
cheaters. Never click any box marked "I DO NOT
SPEAK ENGLISH" or "I'M A CHEATER, TAKE MY
MONEY". You get the picture. ;) Read the
options carefully.
If you select Searches on your options, be
prepared to actually *do* the searches. Many WMs
will decrease your emails (therefore your
earnings) if you simply click the link without
doing the full search. There is some controversy
at many of the forums regarding Search Ads. WMs
are NOT supposed to allow "incentivised" searches
or forcing people to search, it breaks the terms
of the contracts with the Search Engines. That
said, think about the long-term effect of
performing a valid search. If the advertiser who
has bought the ad gets a good return, they will
place more ads, which will give YOU more money.
You're going to have to wait out a timer anyway,
why not give the advertiser a return on his/her
investment to encourage them to place more ads?
What constitutes a valid search?? Here's an
example taken from another site:
HOW TO DO VALID SEARCHES
1. Choose one of the categories or search or do a
search for something you want.
2. Click search results - (that's necessary).
That means wait for the page to open, and look at
it before moving on.
3. You have done a valid search. Thank you very
much.
How simple is that??
Another thing with Searches: Make sure that the
Country you live in is accepted as a Search
Country. The site will list which countries are
acceptable.
It's a good idea to create a folder for each new
Site that you sign up with in your email
account. This way you can move your sign-up
info, payment info, ads you've placed, etc... in
this folder and keep your inbox nicely
organized. Also, after you've logged in, set a
Bookmark for that page. I create a new folder in
my Bookmarks labeled PTRs so I can quickly and
easily access each site.
Payment Processors
Next, you'll want to be sure you have a way of
receiving the money that you'll be making. Most
sites pay through Payment Processors like Paypal or eGold . Paypal
is the oldest and most trusted of the payment
processors. There are more out there, seemingly
more every day! If you've already got a Paypal
account, make sure that it is a Personal Account,
not a Business or Premier Account, as these will
incur fees every time you're paid. My account
was bumped up to a Business Account when my
daughter used it to list some jeans on eBay, and
accepted a credit card from the winner of the
auction. If something similar happens to you,
Paypal *does* allow you to demote your account
once. Simply send them a ticket through
their Contact Us form (located at the bottom of
any page at the Paypal site).
Protecting Your Computer
Sadly, there are a lot of mean-spirited, if not
just downright evil people out there that get
some kind of sick thrill by creating and
distributing viruses online.
I can't emphasize this enough: Protect Your
Computer! Make sure your firewall is on, and
install a resident anti-virus software. There
are several good, FREE ones to download. Avast! is the one I use, AVG is another good one. My
computer came with Norton installed, but it
doesn't seem to work as well as the others.
You'll also need to install a good anti-spyware
application. AdAware is great, I run it
once a week just to keep things running fast &
smooth.
Signing Up and Avoiding Scams
Now you're ready to start signing up with some
good PTRs and start making some cash! I have the
best paying PTRs listed on the link Pay Sites.
You will see ads (and be tempted) by sites that
offer $1, $10, even $100 per click. You may have
already signed up and are actively clicking at
these. Sadly, these are complete scam sites.
Don't feel bad, almost everyone starting out in
PTR has made this same mistake. Here's a way to
help you determine if a site is legitimate, or a
scam:
While you're at the site's homepage, go
to their Advertising Link. Here's an example
from a well-known scam site:
$333 Solo eMail To Searchers
63sec $0.63
Let's do the math, shall we? This site
claims to have 15,000 members. If this
webmaster
charges 63 cents for an ad, and promises to pay
his members $333 EACH for clicking on
the link, he's losing the staggering amount of
$4,994,999.37 for each ad he sells! "Why would
anyone do this?" you ask? Because this
dishonest WebMaster is unfortunately
making 63 cents over and over and over, while
never paying anyone a dime. Plus, he's probably
got his own Search ads listed on his site, and
is making more money by having his members
perform valid searches.
There are lots of people who have been scammed by
dishonest WMs such as this one, who've just given
up and written off the entire Get Paid To (GPT)
world as a scam. While there are many online
scams, there are also many honest, paying sites.
I found GetPaidForum to be an
invaluable resource to determine if a site is
honest and paying. Before I sign up with any
site now, I do a search at the forum to see if
the site is listed in the Praises and Applause
section - or the Complaints section. If there's
no information at GetPaidForum, I do a search on
google and include "scam?".
Example: "sitename.com scam?" This has also
been an effective way to see if they'll pay, or
just let me make money for them.
How Many Sites Should I Join?
This is entirely up to you, depending on how much
time you have and how much money you want/need to
earn each month. I strongly recommend starting
small - no more than 8-10 sites, because it's
very easy to get overwhelmed and hit "burn-out"
with too many emails every day. I was doing 36
sites right after I began doing PTRs and it was
taking up most of my day - plus, about half of
those sites were NOT worth the time - only paying
1/4 of a cent or less per email.
I would not recommend joining any site that has a
higher payout than $10. It's far more
encouraging to be able to reach your payout
within 2 weeks. I mainly stick with the sites
that have a minimum of 1/2 cent per link that I
know will pay me within hours of request -
although my main focus is now 1 and 2 cent link
programs.
Earning From Your Sites
Now you've signed up and you're starting to get
emails. LOTS of emails. I currently get over
400 emails a day! How can I get through all of
these and still have time to sleep?? Glad you
asked! I use a multi-tabbed browser - Opera.
I've used several different browsers - Maxthon,
Firefox, and of course IE, but had different
problems with each. IE doesn't have multi-tabs,
and would just take too long for PTRs. Maxthon
is actually my favorite, but it doesn't
effectively block pop-ups. Same with Firefox.
Opera blocks those nasty pop-ups and also has a
built-in protector. You can get it for Free
here: http://www.opera.com/
I tend to make a game of "work" - always have. I
always try to find the quickest and most
efficient way to get things done. My ex-husband
used to tell me the reason I was so efficient was
because I was lazy, I just wanted to blaze
through tasks so I could lay around & read a
book. Hmmmm. Did I mention that he's my EX?
hehehe
So here's my method of getting through allllll
those emails: A few of the sites that I know
send 50+ emails per day, I select Site Inbox on
my Profile at the site. That means that I have
to go to the site and that day's emails are
there, and not sent to my yahoo account. Doing
this method will open 3 consecutive windows (or
tabs): the main Inbox page, an Email page (that
contains the link you're working on) and the
actual Results page (that shows the timer and
link value)
I start with my Yahoo tab, then go down the list,
clicking each link. I sometimes have up to 15
tabs open at once (including the Site Inbox
tabs). Then I just go down the line, performing
searches, checking out new programs, etc. After
all the searches have been done, I close and go
to the next batch. It's organized and gets
everything done quickly.
PTCs
I encourage you to do some "discovery" work on
each of your sites. Most have more than just
emails - some have games, PTC (Paid to Click) and
Contests PTCs. Many have their own forums, where
you can "meet" some very nice people and share
ideas, not to mention sometimes the WM will put
pertinent information at their forums.
When I have some extra time, I like to visit the
PTC sections - sometimes they have 1, 2, even 3
Cent ads there. You can usually also find lots
of Points ads there. I like to do the Points and
cash them in for advertising. (more on this
later) I've won several of the Contests on lots
of different sites - some are as low as a 3 cent
prize, some are $1 prizes.
I do want to caution you on clicking the PTP
(Paid to Promote) ads. For some reason, these
seem to be more dangerous as far as viruses are
concerned. They definitely have more pop-ups. I
lost a hard drive in Dec. 2005 by clicking on a
PTP ad that had a very nasty virus. The worst
part was - that particular PTP was only worth 1
point. *gulp* If you click a PTP link that has
a lot of pop-ups, or one that sets your virus
software off - immediately let the WM of that
site know about it! They don't want to run these
ads, and they certainly don't want your computer
to fry.
I now only do PTP ads while using the Firefox
browser, with only partial scripts enabled. This
prevents all the nasty bugs and trojans from
loading - and also Kills Pop-ups Dead.

How do these Paid-to-Read Emails work, anyway??
What are Turing Numbers?
Turing numbers are obscured images showing some
random text. They can be read by humans easily,
but can fool automated tools that submit spam to
blogs, perform automated registrations, and such.
They are named after Alan Turing, a british
mathematician who hypothesized that a computer
could be considered aware if a person could not
tell whether they were talking to a machine, or
another human on a remote terminal.
